These are not little grubs in a pot, they are a Southern yummy that I have newly discovered-- the Boiled Peanut! We were at a local farm stand buying the last of the strawberries (yum!) when I caught a whiff of a new smell. It was like walking past a restaurant and not knowing exactly what the food was but knowing by the smell that you wanted a taste.
There was an ENORMOUS kettle cooker in the corner of the fruit stand with steam coming out of it. I asked what was inside and the cashier told me, "Boiled peanuts, ma'am." I had to try some. I bought a pound and even though they were boiling hot, cracked one open. Filled with salty, peanutty liquid, the boiled peanuts are YUMMY! They have more of a tuber-eque texture to them and don't taste like peanuts. (Or chicken, either.) They just have a unique, delicious taste. They're also addictive. Not quite in the Cheeto category of addiction, but damn close.
So, hooray for the boiled peanut, one of the best Southern exports I've yet to discover! Has anyone else ever tried them?

I have no idea what's going on here.
All I can say is XCircMan is practically foaming at the mouth now.
