Ms. Lowe's Gets The Hallow'een Bug...

My next-door neighbors are insane. Not criminally, but decoratively.

The Lowe's family (so called because of the overabundance of lawn furniture and gee-gaws in their yard, highly evocative of Lowe's Garden Center) has had their Hallow'een decorations out for TWO WEEKS already. Every day, MORE things show up. (This is all in addition to the lawn furniture, flags, fountains, hanging plants, plant baskets, and stuff.) Allow me to describe...

Here are just a few of the current Hallow'een decorations...
  • FOUR life-sized Hallow'een figures (Frankenstein, in a repairman's suit, a witch, a mummy, and a vampire.)
  • 5 ghosts/bats on wires that activate and fly through the yard upon hearing any sound.
  • 5 real pumpkins
  • 2 light-up wire pumpkins
  • 4 plastic pumpkins that spell (when placed together) HAVE A HAPPY HALLOWEEN.
  • A large plastic cauldron standing on witch legs that has "Smell My Feet" written on it.
  • A life-sized skeleton witch on a broom hanging from a tree with plastic skulls draped from her broomstick. (I'm not sure about this one, I think they're mistakenly mixing Hallow'een concepts...)
  • A corn shock.
  • 3 Hay bales (for the plastic/real pumpkins to rest on)
  • A light-projector that makes ghosts fly over the front of their house at night--however, the ghosts are going down, instead of up. This bugs me for some reason. It seems to me that they should fly up, don't you agree?

OK. These are just SOME of the items in the yard. More magically appear every day. I kid you not, EVERY DAY. I'll have to go out this afternoon and take a picture of their house, so you can see it. I don't even think I can encompass the enormity of the display with a simple picture, but I'll do my best! Is ist just me? Are they crazy? They're not really into Hallow'een as a holiday, they just like to decorate! Kind of like the people who collect cars but never drive them.

Meanwhile, back at our house, there is one little gravestone sign (B. Ware) and clingy door decorations. I haven't gotten around to buying our pumpkins yet, and I haven't made my annual GIANT SPIDER (formed from trash bags) yet, either.

Stay tuned for more Hallow'een news!

Okay, you know I'm a big freak for Halloween myself, but geez!! Even I will not go to such lengths--although my living room is going to be bedecked this weekend! I'll post my own pics on my blog next week!

They're nuts! Decorating for the sake of decorating is like buying stuff you don't want at a sale because you can save money.
