Lardbody to Hardbody? Maybe...

Being inspired by The Illustrated Librarian's ongoing successes (kudos!), I have gotten my act together and returned to the gym. (I am also dieting, but that is another whine...) Yeek!

Prior to Thing1 and Thing2, I used to go to the gym with my husband so we could work out together. Since it's tag-team babysitting at this point in our lives, I need to go by myself or take a neighbor friend. No biggie.

I laugh at myself because the gym I go to is a Marine Corps gym, and I am SO NOT a Marine! (I think the pink 'VAMPIRES' workout t-shirt kind of gives it away.) So here I am, lifting weights and using the aerobic machines in a desperate attempt to tone up and lose weight while all around me are 20-year-old studly men in the prime of their lives. Talk about "one of these things is NOT like the others!" It is very motivating to be surrounded by sweaty men, I must admit, and my workouts are excellent.

I'll have to admit, none of the guys bothers me or harasses me in the slightest. In fact, they go out of their way to be polite and considerate. It's ironic, though... ten years ago, I'd have been leering at the eye candy with open abandon. Now, I'm just trying to make sure I don't pull a muscle or fall off of a machine and break my tailbone! Oh, how things have changed.

I will be sure to post updates on my new gym rat adventures.

Oh honey...bring back the fine art of leering at the eye candy!! I KNOW you want to!

Yeah, not falling down is important--but where will you have a better chance to leer than at a Marine Corps base gym (except in MY home town, of course)?

Perhaps you could ask for some assistance on how to use certain machines, or maybe a spotter on certain exercises?

I'm not allowed to go back to the gym yet after the back injury, and I'm REALLY missing the leering opportunities. Forget "ten years ago"--LEER NOW!! That's an order!!

Seriously though, I'm glad I have motivated you--though that seemes funny to me. Throughout our relationship I have always felt that YOU were the one with all the resolve and willpower--not me.

So, let's keep motivating each other! Get STRONG--not too thin, okay?? I love you! Keep up the good work!!

Congrats on the new gym routine! I have a friend who really likes going to Curves, but it isn't a hard workout.

I had a lot of success with a food journal. I just bought a cheap notebook and wrote down everything I ate. I didn't do all that weigh and measure stuff, but just what I ate. I felt it really helped and kept me eating some stuff so I wouldn't have to write it down.

I will take everyone's advice to leer very seriously. Perhaps some waggling of the eyebrows as well... hee hee! (I sound like Dirk Dastardly or something, don't I?)

Leer away! I'm suprised you have shown so much restraint. Absolutely play the dumb blonde. Take it from me, Marines like nothing more than being able to help out a lady in distress, especially and attractive one.
