Batten Down the Hatches--Ophelia is On the Way!

I've been through tornadoes, earthquakes, and wildfires, but I've managed to avoid hurricanes...until now. Oh joy. Oh... OPHELIA!

Yes, being located smack-dab in the center of the NC coastline means that hurricanes are pretty much a given, especially with the record number of storms we've been having this year. Ophelia is on the way and I'm a wee bit nervous.

Unlike the Gulf Coast refugees, we're taking the threat of the storm seriously. If the USMC weather-guru says EVACUATE, we're out of here lickety-split. There are storm shelters nearby and the Naval hospital, so that's a good thing. Most people in this area DO WHAT THEY'RE TOLD TO DO DURING EMERGENCIES (which is refreshing), so everyone has secured their possessions, stocked up on water, food, flashlights and sundries, and we're just sitting around, waiting for the storm to hit.

My main concern, after getting the house and my family secured, was making sure that I had wine, Cheetos (thanks again, AVWoman!) and chocolate. And several good books to read by candlelight. TP is stockpiled, so that's OK, too! (Bombs away, we're ok...)

Wish us luck. This isn't something I asked for, but it will be a check-the-block sort of experience.

What's next, surviving a tsunami? Well, maybe... I should be careful what I wish for, right?

Unfortunate that we puny humans have to battle nature on this planet. At least you have some warning when dealing with a hurricane, unlike the earthquakes here in California.

I have every confidence that you will weather the storm, Infomatrix, but please call me soon and let me know that you're all alright. Love you!

Weather a hurricane?! It sounds like you stockpiled enough supplies to last a nuclear winter!

I'm sure you, USMCman and things 1 and 2 will come through this ordeal with colors flying and trumpets...trumpetting(?).

But please, let us know you are alright when it is all over. Much love.
